What are the ports of Router?

I have recently bought a router and started the downloading the movies and video songs with the help of uTorrent. Now when I was studying the manual, I just went through the ports of router on which the speed is depended. There was not enough explanation about it.!! So please explain me in details what are these ports..?? Expecting some help from your side, also detailed information would be grateful.

The ports of a computer, or more specifically, a connection / router, not only redirects you to our router to indicate where to redirect a package according to which port is directed. For example, if we have three computers connected to the same router, a program that creates a direct connection between two computers (a clear example P2P programs, but so are the games online if one of the two creates the game) will speak with the router, and if this is not configured to redirect the package to the appropriate computer port (which has been created starting the game, for example) will not work.

EMule happens exactly the same, although in this case, yes it is "working." Quoting is given because, if you have the necessary ports closed, the servers will be assigned a low ID and, assuming that still let you connect, your download speed will be extremely limited. If you are not sure whether you have open ports or not, you can always go to the settings of eMule, section and click on Test Connection ports.

A key step is to open ports to get some information about the system. The first: the local IP. To do this we have only to go to Network Connections in Windows Control Panel, and double-click the Internet connection (not to be confused with the adapters 1394, which also appear there.) In the Support tab appears some data such that IP Address, Netmask, and Gateway. Write them down.

You need to turn to the local IP is set (not to be confused with the public IP, which can be fixed or not, according to the supplier), so if your router is assigning different IP by DHCP, we have to disable it. To do so, following in the Connection Status, click the General tab and then the Properties button. Then in the list look for the TCP-IP and we double-click it. Here you must tell Windows to use your settings, and set an IP address similar to the one you have now (which you noted earlier), changing only if you like, the last digit. Fields Netmask and Gateway which you copied them so. For example, if the IP you wrote down before was 192.168.0.56, you can put the same or one that goes from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.255.

After that, just need to tell our router that requests that you do for TCP and UDP ports that we have configured to be redirected to the local IP of your computer. There are numerous models of routers, making it impossible to give an infallible formula, valid for all of them. First of all, we must enter the router configuration. Normally this is achieved by introducing IP Gateway in your browser, or telnet to it (MSDOS window and then TELNET + "ip"), but you must look at the documentation. After that you will be prompted to enter your username and password, and then, you'll be inside.

The appearance will be something like the following though, of course, if you have any ports configured yet, the list will be shorter. Sooner or later you bump into some text boxes where you enter the port number you want to open (perhaps supports ranges) and if you're opening TCP or UDP (if not specified is usually both at once) and what more important! Which direction you're going to redirect local.?? Needless to say, here you have to put the local IP that you invented / copied long ago.

It is not necessary to limit the discharge unless we happen as we have said before, that uTorrent download so fast you start to saturate the connection and prevent you from surfing the Internet. As for the overall ceiling of maximum number of connections and connected peers per torrent, the optimal value depends on your connection. You can try to modify these values (increased) to see if you get better results, although most of the time there will be any appreciable difference.

If you chose to use the Startup Wizard, and have a good starting configuration. If not, you can reload it from the Options / Network Wizard or pressing Ctrl + G. In this section there are no universal magic number and valid for everyone, you should find one that works best for you the characteristics of your connection and use that you give uTorrent. In general it is good to have a good leeway in the maximum upload speed because, otherwise, it is very likely that your connection is saturated and does not perform to the maximum.
