    Router is Shutting Down Automatically

I am facing the problem with the router. For various rationales, once in a while, while I am running the program, the internet stops suddenly. I am not able to find out what the problem is.?! My one friend told me that the router might have facing some problems because of IPv6. Now, frankly speaking I am not having enough idea about it. So I am expecting some information from your side. Please help me as soon as possible.

IPv6 added features to a network already configured. Thus, the first time that implements IPv6, ensure that operations are not interrupted that work with IPv4. The topics covered in this section shows in detail a procedure to incorporate IPv6 into a network already configured. The first step in implementing IPv6 is to identify the network entities that support IPv6. Most of the time, the implementation of IPv6 does not change the network topology (cables, routers and hosts). However, before configuring IPv6 addresses on network interfaces, you may need to prepare for IPv6 hardware and applications.

Verify that the network hardware can be upgraded to IPv6. For example, see the manufacturer documentation on IPv6 support on the following types of hardware :
    • Routers
    • Firewalls
    • Servers
    • Switches

All procedures in this part assume that the equipment, especially routers, can be upgraded to IPv6.

Because servers are considered hosts of IPv6 ND protocol automatically configures its IPv6 addresses. However, many servers have multiple network interface cards that may have the intention of removing to maintain or replace. If you replace a network interface card, protocol ND automatically generates a new interface ID for that card. A particular server may not accept this behavior. Therefore, do not rule manually configuring the interface ID for the IPv6 addresses on each interface on the server.

The implementation of IPv6 tunnels allowing multiple configurations to serve as transitional mechanisms when the network migrates to a combination of IPv4 and IPv6. The tunnels allow communication between isolated IPv6 networks. As the internet is run mostly IPv4, IPv6 packets must navigate the Internet site through tunnels toward the destination IPv6 networks. Here are some of the most important scenarios on the use of tunnels in the IPv6 network topology :
    • The ISP of acquiring IPv6 services to create a tunnel from the site boundary router to the ISP's network.
    • It operates a large distributed network with IPv4 connectivity. To connect distributed sites using IPv6, you can run a 6to4 tunnel from the router to limit each subnet.
    • Sometimes a router infrastructure can not be upgraded to IPv6. In this case, the alternative is to create a manual tunnel in the IPv4 router with two IPv6 routers as endpoints.

When deploying IPv6 on a network already configured, you must be careful not to compromise the security of the site. During the successive phases in the implementation of IPv6, consider the following security aspects :
    • The IPv6 and IPv4 packets require the same amount of filtering.
    • Often, IPv6 packets pass through a tunnel through a firewall. Therefore, to apply any of the following scenarios :
      • Make the firewall inspects the contents in the tunnel.
      • Place an IPv6 firewall rules are very similar in the tunnel endpoint at the opposite end.
    • Some IPv6 transition mechanisms used in UDP over IPv4 tunnels. Such mechanisms could be dangerous to short-circuiting the firewall.
    • IPv6 nodes are globally accessible from outside the corporate network. If the security policy prohibits public access, you must set stricter rules regarding the firewall. For example, you could configure a stateful firewall.

Prefix must be obtained before setting up IPv6 site. The site prefix is used in the derivation of IPv6 addresses for all nodes in the implementation of IPv6. In IPv6 Prefixes provides an introduction to the site prefixes. An ISP that supports IPv6 can provide businesses IPv6 site prefix of 48 bits. If your ISP only supports IPv4, you can find another that is compatible with IPv6 and maintain the current ISP for IPv4. In this case, the following alternatives. If your organization is an ISP, the site prefixes of its customers are obtained from the appropriate Internet registry.

You may encounter the following situations to develop services that support IPv6 :
    • Some applications, but are converted to IPv6, IPv6 is not enabled by default. You may need to configure these applications to enable IPv6.
    • A server running multiple services, some only IPv4 and IPv4 and IPv6, can cause problems. Some customers may need to use various types of services, which can cause confusion on the server.

If you want to use IPv6 but your ISP does not offer IPv6 addresses, consider the alternatives to switch suppliers :
    • Hire the services of another ISP to provide a second line for IPv6 provided with details of your business. This solution is expensive.
    • Get a virtual ISP. A virtual ISP provides IPv6 connectivity with no link. Instead, it creates a tunnel from their offices through the IPv4 ISP, virtual ISP.
    • Use a 6to4 tunnel through your ISP to other IPv6 sites. For directions, use the router's IPv4 addresses registered as a public section of 6to4 IPv6 addresses.

Re: Router is Shutting Down Automatically

A tunnel between a 6to4 router and a 6to4 relay router is insecure in itself. A tunnel of this type always have the following security issues :
    • While 6to4 relay routers and unwraps encapsulate packets, not verify the information contained in the packages.
    • The distortion of addresses is a serious problem of tunnels 6to4 relay routers. For inbound traffic, the 6to4 router can not compare the IPv4 address of the router forwarding to the IPv6 address of origin. Therefore, the IPv6 host address can be spoofed easily. The address of the 6to4 relay router can also be distorted.
    • By default, there is no trust mechanism between 6to4 routers and 6to4 relay routers. Therefore, a 6to4 router can not identify whether the 6to4 relay router is trusted, can not even determine if it is a legitimate 6to4 relay router. There must be a relationship of trust between the 6to4 site and the destination IPv6, or both sites are open to attack.
