Windstream, Speedstream 4200, PS3 and NAT 3

I am writing this on behalf of a friend who's having a nightmare with NAT 3 on his PS3. The only ISP in his area of Oklahoma is Windstream DSL and his modem is a Speedstream 4200.

He's tried forwarding ports, connecting using PPPoE and putting his PS3 in a DMZ and still no joy. I found something called Bridge Mode and don't want to tell him to try it cause I don't know what it does or how to undo it or If it will even help. In as simplistic english as possible What is Bridge Mode ?

Could it just be his Modem ?

bridgemode means ip by your isp is not assigned to the modem but the same ip will be assigned to the computer which is connected directly to modem. If your modem is set in bridgemode & if your computer is connected to the modem, the ip address from the ISP will be assigned to your computer directly & not to the modem.
