    Local area connection problem

I have Verizon DSL with the Westell 6100 modem. When I plug the Ethernet cable into my desktop, the local area connection says it is connected however, I cannot access the internet with it. When I plug the ethernet cable into my friends laptop, everything works. Both computers use
    Windows XP. What is wrong?

Well, do you have any firewall installed on your machine? If so then try to disable it and check whether you can get the connectivity or not. Also did you try to put the ip address and dns server manually in your local area network properties rather than acquiring it automatically, try it and let us know the results.

I fixed it earlier. It wasn't set to automatically detect the IP. Thanks for the reply though.
