New MacBook Pro Wifi reception is terrible

Recently I have bought a macbook pro which is installed with Mac OS X 10.5 on it. The problem which I am facing is that the MacBook Pro Wifi reception is terrible. The network on the Macbook keeps on disconnecting. Also the internet on the Macbook is very slow. Online videos take a lot of time to stream. What could be the possible reason behind the problem? Please help.

Check the surroundings in which the Macbook is being used. If there are lot of metallic objects in the surrounding, then the strength of the Wireless signal will get reduced due to the continuous reflections of the signals. Hence if there are any bigger metallic objects in the vicinity of the Macbook, then remove them and check the strength of the signal on the Macbook.

The drivers of the network card must not be working properly due to which the Macbook is getting disconnected from the network. For the network card to work properly, proper drivers are to be installed. Drivers act as the translator between the operating system and the device. Check if the drivers for the network card are installed and working fine on the Macbook. If needed update the drivers on the Macbook for the network card and see if it helps.

Is the network which you are trying to connect encrypted? The latest Mac operating systems do not support all the types of the encryption. Hence if the system is tried to connect to the network which is encrypted using the type of encryption which is not supported, then system will keep on disconnecting from the network. Therefore check the encryption of the network which you are trying to connect and change it if required.

I would suggest you to check the wireless band on which the router and the Macbook are working. The new Mac operating system does not support all the wireless bands and hence disconnection may occur frequently. Configure the router on the wireless band which is supported by the macbook and check the performance of the network.

I think PRAM reset might help in solving the issue. The following is the procedure for performing a PRAM reset on the Macbook.
1. Press and hold the following keys on the keyboard (R, P, Apple and Option) while booting.
2. The keys should be kept pressed till 3 startup chimes are heard.
3. Once 3rd Startup chime is heard, release the keys and let the system boot normally.
4. Now check the Wifi connection of the Macbook.
