Wireless connectivity issue in Dell Inspiron 4150

Hello there, I have a Dell inspiron 4150 laptop which was installed with Windows Xp on it. The laptop used to get connected to the Linksys router to access Internet on it. Recently I upgraded the operating system on the laptop to Windows 7 and now the laptop shows that it is connected to the router but there is no Internet connection available on the laptop. Can anybody here help me in solving the Wireless connectivity issue in Dell Inspiron 4150? Any help is highly appreciated.

Check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly on the system. All the devices which are connected to the computer requires a set of drivers to be installed on the computer to work properly. If the appropriate drivers for the device are not installed then the device will not work properly. To check if the appropriate drivers are installed and working on the computer, right click on my computer and then select device manager. Highlight the network adapter and check if there are any caution signs. Follow the troubleshooting procedure if there are any caution signs. If the troubleshooting does not help, then try and update the drivers for the network adapter.

Have you checked the configuration of the router? Sometimes the configuration of the router gets modified if any device is added or subtracted from the network. If the configuration of the router changes then the devices will not be able to connect to the router. Hence log in to the router and check if it is configured as per the settings which are provided by the service provider. If there are any changes to be made, do it and then save the configuration. After saving the configuration, follow a power cycle for the router and then see if the laptop is able to connect to the router or not.

The operating system which is installed on the computer must not be working properly due to which you are not able to connect the laptop to the router. There are lot of files which are associated to the operating system of the computer. If any of the file which is associated to the operating system is corrupt or missing then some feature of the operating system may not work properly. You will have to manually replace all the files which are corrupt. Insert the installation disk of the operating system and boot the system from the installation disk. Repair the operating system and let the procedure complete. After completing the procedure, see if the laptop is able to connect to the router or not.

Establishing and maintaining the network connection is the job of the Network interface card of the system. Hence if the NIC is faulty then the device will not be able to establish or maintain the network connection. You can check the NIC card by pinging the software interface which is used for testing. To test the NIC, click on Start menu and select Run. Type "ping 127.0.0.1" and hit enter. Check if there are any data losses during sending and receiving data. If there are any data loss then you will have to replace the NIC of the laptop.

Disable the IPv6 support of the Windows 7 laptop and then connect the laptop to the router. The default IP version of Windows 7 is IPv6 while the default IP version of Windows XP is IPv4. The DHCP of the router will assign IPv4 address to the Windows 7 computer which will conflict. To disable the IPv6 support, go to network connections and then remove the check mark from the option of "Enable IPv6 support". Apply the settings. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

All the portable devices face the problem with residual charge storage. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips and other components of the laptop. If the voltage of the residual charge gets stored near the motherboard components then the system will not be able to boot. Clear the residual charge from the laptop. Shut down the laptop and press the power button for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and see if the laptop is working properly.
