LAN and Internet Connection Sharing - Vista

Hi all,
I have a home computer with a DSL modem and internet, running Windows Vista, Installed with Windows Security Essentials and McAfee.
I also have a laptop running on same above configuration.

I want to create a LAN between these two and share internet at the same time. Followed every tutorial but could get them together.. always LAN comes as Unified Network or Public Network, thought I change to Private Network, it will be Public Network again the next time i reboot.
Checked both computers with other computers and assured the hardware is OK.

Can somebody please help me on this.. might be a firewall issue but I tried on that too.

Why dont you buy a router and connect or share internet to your pc and your laptop? Or you can follow simple steps from the below link on how to configure Internet Connection Sharing in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126

Thank you very much for all your replies and links I will try them. Now my LAN works, but every time I reboot I have to change my LAN connection to PRIVATE NETWORK coz it shows PUBLIC all the time, to get it working. I have idea why that happens like that.

Thanks guys got it solved. It had been a firewall problem, after reconfiguring everything according to what I learned throughout these weeks finally got it working. My advice, if u face trouble after configuring everything to the book, then check windows firewall setting again, and if u have a third-party firewall disable it and try with windows firewall only; things will be fine.
