Wireless connectivity issues in HP mini 100

Hello there, I have recently purchased the HP mini 100 which is installed with Windows XP SP3. I am facing some Wireless connectivity issues in HP mini 100. I am trying to connect the netbook to a Linksys wireless router but I am not able to access Internet. The system shows that it is connected to the router but Internet cannot be accessed on the netbook. As I am not a networking person, I am not able to solve the problem. Any help regarding the topic are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

First check if the router is configured properly or not. To share the same connection between two different computers through router, the router has to be configured properly. If the router is not configured properly, then the devices will not be able to access Internet through the router. To check if the router is configured properly or not, enter the default IP of the router in the address bar of the browser and hit enter. Provide the user name and password. Open the configuration of the router and see if the router is configured properly. If there are any changes to be made, do it and save the configuration. Reboot the router and see if the netbook is able to connect to the router.

The operating system which is installed on the netbook must be having some problems due to which the netbook is not able to connect to the router. There are lot of files which are associated to the operating system of the computer. If any of the files which is associated to the operating system is corrupt or missing then the operating system will not work properly. Insert the installation disk of the operating system which you are using and boot the system from the drive. Select Repair the currently installed version of Windows Option and let the procedure complete. After the completion of procedure, see if the problem is solved or not.

Check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working on the computer. All the devices which are connected to the computer, require a set of drivers to be installed on the computer. Drivers act as the mediator between the operating system and the device. If the appropriate drivers are not installed then the device will not work properly. Right click on My computer and select Device manager. Highlight the network adapter and see if there are any caution signs. Follow the troubleshooting procedure if there are any caution signs. If the troubleshooting does not help, then try and update the drivers for the network adapter.

Are there any security softwares installed on the computer? All the security softwares work on the simple principle of blocking the unknown traffic which is originating or terminating on the computer. Due to this working principle sometimes the traffic desired by the user is also blocked. Therefore try and disable all the security softwares which are installed on the computer. After disabling all the security softwares you will be able to access Internet on the netbook through the router.

The devices which are connected to the router using Wireless connection are assigned IP address by the DHCP which is running on the router. If the DHCP on the router is not working properly then the devices which are connected will not get the proper IP addresses assigned to it and hence the device will not be able to access all the resources of the network. Disable and then enable the DHCP on the router and see if it works. To disable the DHCP running on the router, login to the router and disable the DHCP. Once the DHCP is disabled, you will have to login to the router again. Go to configuration of the router and enable the DHCP. Save the configuration and restart the router from the maintenance tab. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

The network interface card installed on the computer is responsible for establishing and maintaining the connection to the network. If the network interface card of the system is not working properly, then the computer will not be able to maintain the network connectivity. All the NIC's have a software interface port configured which can be used for testing. Click on Start and select RUN. Type "ping 127.0.0.1" in run tab and hit enter. Check the data packet loss in sending and receiving data. Ideally there should not be any loss. If there is any loss then replace the NIC as it is faulty.
