Windows 7 shows No network connected when connected to router

Hello there, I am facing a weird problem with the laptop which I am using. The laptop is installed with Windows 7 operating system. The problem is whenever I try to connect the laptop to the router, it shows that the connection is established but Windows 7 shows No network connected when connected to router. There is a red cross on the Local area connection symbol due to which I am not able to access the Internet. I cant figure out what is causing such problem and hence need your help in solving the issue. Therefore If anybody knows how to solve the issue, then please suggest some solutions.

Is there any security software installed on the computer? All the security softwares have the tendency of blocking the unknown traffic leaving or entering the computer. Due to this tendency sometimes the traffic desired by the user also gets blocked. To solve such a problem you will have to move the process of the utility which is used to connect to the internet to the trusted applications list. After moving the process, see if the laptop is able to connect to the router or not. You can also try and disable the entire firewall to check the connectivity.

Try disabling the IPv6 support of Windows 7 and then try to connect the laptop to the router. The default IP version of Windows 7 is IPv6 which conflicts sometimes with the IP assigned by the network and hence the laptop will not be able to connect to the router. To disable the IPv6 support of Windows 7 operating system, open the network connection and select Lan properties. Open the TCP/IP properties and remove the check mark from the option which says "Enable the IPv6 support". Save and apply the settings. Restart the computer and see if the problem is solved.

Check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly on the computer. The devices which are connected to the computer require a set of drivers to be installed on the computer. Drivers are translating interface between the operating system and the device. If the appropriate drivers are not installed then the device will not work properly. To check if the drivers are installed and working properly on the system, right click on My computer and then select Device manager. If there are any caution signs against the network adapter then follow the troubleshooting procedure. If the troubleshooting does not help, try and update the drivers.

Re: Windows 7 shows No network connected when connected to router

The problem which you are facing can be due to multiple network adapters enabled on the computer. Whenever there are two network adapters enabled on the computer and only one of them is used at a time, it creates conflict between the network adapters sometime. Therefore try disabling one of the network adapters and see if the problem continues. Whenever you need to use the other network adapter, you can re-enable it. Hope the post helps.

Re: Windows 7 shows No network connected when connected to router

I suspect that the system is infected with some virus which is not allowing you to access the Internet. Virus's get downloaded while visiting certain websites or while downloading some data from the internet. Virus's have the tendency to get linked with the files of the operating system. If such a situation occurs then the operating system will not work properly. Therefore scan the system with an updated antivirus and check for all the files which are infected. Repair all the files which are infected and see if the situation improves or not.
