Microsoft Security Essentials won't update Error 0x80240022

I am using a dell desktop installed with windows XP. I have recently upgraded my windows XP to windows 7 so far i was using the Microsoft security essential on my system. I thought of updating Microsoft security essential too. But to my surprise when i updated the Microsoft security essential it gave an error 0x80240022

The Microsoft Security Essentials application always uses services delivered by Microsoft Updates in order to download the virus and spyware definitions and updates and the definition upgrade error are caused by some internal mess-up so i would advice you to re-install the application. Hope that this will solve your issue.

Follow the steps which i have mentioned below in order to get rod of this problem.

• Open the start menu in the search box simply type in "services.msc" and press the enter key.
• Then right click windows update and then click the start button. This time the update will be installed.

Since you have updated the operating system the security essential needs to be re installed once again and reboot your system in the safe mode and download the Microsoft Security Essential from the official microsoft website use this setup for the re installation this time the update will be installed.
