There are a small number of procedures that Windows users be supposed to take, whether they install a firewall or not. Like by no means open several executable accessory or script customary by email unless you are extremely confident of its innovative and are convinced the originator has outstanding virus/Trojan fortification in place. (Do not even preview it in Outlook; turn the preview pane characteristic of Outlook off).

For avoiding virus, worm, Trojan procedures you can install a superior antivirus scanner and maintain it up to date. Scan email accessory previous to opening them. MS Office: Switch on Word/Excel 97 Macro virus fortification (Tools/Options/General/Macro virus fortification) or run Word/Excel 2000 with at least medium sanctuary settings. This will make certain the client is obtainable with a dialog box when documents containing macros are opened. If suppose Word documents are conventional by email, open them in Wordpad rather than Word, in view of the fact that macros won't be understood by WordPad. Set the file-permissions of "normal.dot" to read only, to protect viruses or Trojans from infecting your Word setup. |

Put out of action the SMB/Microsoft protocols in your network arrangement, particularly on PCs with open Internet right of entry. Better install Windows, Explorer and Office sanctuary fixes/service packs: This is a complicated one as it can be very time-uncontrollable and cause most important headaches. For illustration, the current Outlook sanctuary patch is so restraining as to make it impracticable on intranets (in my opinion). Take away unnecessary files and software’s particularly malware programs. |
