SSH access settings in IPCop

Hi,
I want some tips on different network settings available in IPCop. I had installed this software on Ubuntu and found it is a very useful tool. There several options available in that, which helps out to setup advance configuration. What I can do in Network Status to make my system a bit more secure. Does the SSH access is enabled in it or it needs a configuration. Also what you recommend for backup part.

In the network status you will find here the configuration of your network classified by color. For each interface you have the MAC address of the card used, the allocated IP address (static or DHCP), the size of the MTU used and the condition of the transfer of packets command ifconfig. Are also entries in the routing table and ARP table (for Address Resolution Protocol), logically the list becomes more important when activating the DHCP server.

The SSH access is not enabled by default and can not be if we do not use it. The IPCop SSH keys are of type RSA and DSA, they are encrypted at 1024 bits. You can refuse the transfer SCP, thus preventing copying files to IPCop with WinSCP (for example). Other options for the SSH client version used and the authentication password and public key are in the game. Of course, any changes must be validated using the button [Save] to be taken into account.

The graphical interface of IPCop can be a little personal, nothing transcendent good apart from the choice of the language thereof. You can also choose to display the machine name in the title bar of the browser (set in advance when installing the system or through the command setup). Other options are not directly related, or not at all, the GUI but still have their usefulness: JavaScript enabled, activating the automatic refresh of the page and activate the beep connection / disconnection (in effect it helps to know if IPCop has finished booting and is logged when you restart it and of course it has no screen and other peripherals).

Like any computer system, hardware or software failures are rare but exist. With IPCop you can perform two types of backups: a first on the machine, and a second diskette. Any modification is taken into account using the button [Save]. It is also possible to reset it using the button [Restore Defaults]. Backups on the machines are considered as restore points that allow to return to a previous configuration after a change is not satisfactory. Several backups of this type can be created on the system, it is also possible to save the latest on the local computer and restore it using the buttons [Browse] and [Import data].

The backup on disk is valuable in severe failure. In fact, if you need to completely reinstall the system disk backup that you will be asked to install and you will thus save valuable time (in fact, all your settings will be restored as they were during the backup, without your intervention). Of course, if your IPCop contains no floppy drive or that it is not mounted you can not perform this type of backup.
