Can Mal/Generic-A be prevented from entering the system

I am using Windows XP Service pack 3 with Quick Heal antivirus and my browser is Mozilla Firefox. I want to know that can Mal/Generic-A be prevented from entering the system. If yes, then please reply with the suitable solutions. Actually, this particular infection is alerted in my system when I use the internet. I am able to delete it with the help of my antivirus, but I cannot understand how it enters in my computer.

If Mal/Generic-A has to be be prevented from entering the system, then you have to beware of the malicious links that are placed by the attackers on the web pages. The unsuspected users fall prey to such an attack easily and this is why this is a widely used technique by the attackers to spread the new infections that are developed by them.
