Ethernet port problems in Mac Pro

I have recently bought a Mac Pro 8 core which is installed with Mac OS X Snow leopard. The Mac pro is connected to Internet connection through a Linksys router. All was working great when suddenly I started facing Ethernet port problems in Mac Pro. The Mac Pro disconnects from the network and gives an error message saying "Ethernet connectivity failure". I dont know how to solve the problem and hence if anybody knows how to solve this problem then please share some informations. Any help is highly appreciated.

First check if the router is configured properly. If the router is not configured properly then the devices which are connected to the router will not be able to access all the network resources and may get disconnected. To check the configuration of the router, you will have to login to the router. Get the default IP address of the router by referring the user manual and then enter it in the address bar of the browser. Once logged into the router, open the configuration page and contact the ISP to get the correct configuration of the router. Check if the router is configured properly according to the settings. If there are any changes to be made, then do it and save the configuration. Reboot the router and check if the problem persists.

Check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly. All the devices which are connected to the computer require a set of drivers to be installed on the computer so that the device works properly. If the appropriate drivers for the device are not installed then it will not work properly. Therefore check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly on the system. If required you can try and update the drivers for the network adapter and see if the computer disconnects from the network.

Routers also work on softwares known as firmware. The firmware consists of algorithm. All the operations of the router depend on the algorithm of the router. If the algorithm of the router has some problems then the router will not work properly. Try updating the firmware of the router and see if the problem is solved. To update the firmware of the router, connect the computer to router using a console cable. Go to the official website of the manufacturer of the router and download the latest firmware which is available for the model of the router which you are using. Install the firmware and see if the problem continues or not.

If the Network interface card on the computer is not working properly then the system is bound to lose connectivity to the network. Network interface card is responsible for maintaining the connectivity to the network. All the NIC's have a software port programmed which can be used for testing. The software port is also known as Loop back address. The default IP address of the NIC is 127.0.0.1. Ping the following IP and see the errors in packet sent and received. If there are no errors then the NIC is good but if there are some errors in data sent and received then you will have to replace the NIC as it may be faulty.
