The Windows 2000/XP/2003 system has a built-in IP sanctuary apparatus called IPSec (IP Security). IPSec is a protocol that’s premeditated to prevent individual TCP/IP packets which is moving across your network by using public key encryption. In a nut shell, the resource PC summarizes the standard or regular IP packet inside of an encrypted IPSec packet. This packet then continue encrypted in anticipation of it arrives at the destination PC.

Simply by creating a policy element that will tell the computer to block all the specific IP traffic you can protect your computer with IPSect, hat is configured by those rules. To block all PING traffic to and from a computer you need to create an IPSec policy that will block all ICMP traffic. Check to see if the computer responds to PING requests by pinging it.

First you have to go to the start and then open run and to the MMC. Then you have to add the IP Security and Policy administration Snap-In. Then you have to choose on which computer this policy will administer window will choose the local computer (or any additional policy depending upon your requirements). Select Close then click Ok. Then you have to Right-click IP Security Policies in the left pane of the MMC comfort. Choose the Manage IP Filter Lists and Filter Actions.

You do not necessitate for arranging a particular IP Filter for ICMP (the protocol used by PING) for the reason that such a filter previously exists by evasion - All ICMP Traffic. On the other hand you may wish to arrange an extra specific IP Filter for ICMP. For illustration, let’s say you desire to protect a server from answering all PINGS excluding for unambiguous PINGs sent by a particular computer used by the Help Desk department. In that case you be supposed to add a new IP Filter and use your defined resource and target IP Addresses, and the ICMP protocol. Observe the Block Web Browsing but it permit Intranet Traffic with IPSec for illustration on how to generate IP Filters.

In the administer IP Filter Lists and Filter accomplishment review your filters and if all are set, select on the administer Filter Actions tab. At present you are necessitate for adding a filter accomplishment that will block our selected traffic, so you have to click Add, from there to the Filter Action, then to the Filter Action General Options and at the end click block for all. Back in the administer IP Filter Lists and Filter accomplishment review your filters and if all are set, select on the Close button. You can add Filters and Filter Actions at any time.
