The interface of Microsoft Security Essentials has been cleaned up to be simple and accessible to all. The software uses a color code (green, yellow and red) for reporting security alerts at the appropriate time. Unlike his counterparts free (Avast! Or Antivir example), there is no information to provide when you install Microsoft Security Essentials. The real-time protection proved to be relatively effective to protect you during web surfing and downloads your: web pages visited, files downloaded and emails received are all scrutinized. At any time, you can launch an in-depth analysis of your computer or a USB key that you just downloaded. It is even possible to plan this type of analysis.

For downloading or using Microsoft Security Essentials, you must first know the edition of Windows you are using, I meant is it 32 bit or 64 bit. This is because Microsoft Security Essentials is available in several versions. A version for Windows XP 32-bit, one for Windows 7 and Windows Vista 32-bit and one for Windows 7 and Windows Vista 64-bit. If you use Windows 7 or Windows Vista and you do not know if your system is 32 or 64-bit, follow the following steps:-
    • On the Windows desktop, click right mouse button on the Computer icon. If it is not there, click the Start button and then click the right mouse click Computer.
    • In the menu that appears, click Properties.
    • Scroll down general system information that appears to the category system.
    • The line type of system informs you if your Windows is in 32 bits or 64 bits. Here, our system is 32 bit.
    • Finally close the System Information window general.

Once you got the windows version, download Microsoft Security Essentials for your system and install.

    User interface:

The streamlined interface of Microsoft Security Essentials allows you easy access to software functions. In one glance you know if you be protected. Upon installing the software, you're protected. The files that you open the pages you visit, files and messages you download are automatically analyzed.

    • Since its first launch, Microsoft Security Essentials checks whether the definitions of viruses and spyware are up to date. To perform this check manually, open the Update tab.
    • Click the Update button. The updates are then downloaded and installed.
    • The Home tab for information on the condition of protecting your computer. A green symbol indicates that you will be protected.
    • Select Complete and then click Scan Now to review all of your computer and verify that it does not contain viruses. Note that within compressed archives (ZIP, RAR, 7z, ...) is also examined.
    • When you close the window Microsoft Security Essentials, the icon snaps into the quick launch bar. The virus remains active and you are always protected.

By default, Microsoft Security Essentials quickly and automatically scans your computer every Sunday at 2 am one day and a time when your computer is not necessarily on. You can easily choose the date and time of the automated analysis and improvement by analyzing in depth your computer. Here is how you can do the same:-

    • Double click the icon for Microsoft Security Essentials on the desktop or the Quick Launch bar.
    • Open the Settings tab.
    • Click on the category Automatic analysis.
    • Then choose the date and time of the automatic analysis weekly on Friday at 18h for example.
    • Scroll type analysis and select Full.
    • Uncheck Launch automatic analysis only when my computer is not in use. If you work on your computer at the time scheduled for the automatic analysis, your handling will be slowed, but the analysis will at least take place.
    • Finally, click on Save Changes.

In a manual or automatic analysis, Microsoft Security Essentials has detected a virus or other threat. You can easily eradicated:
    • When a threat is detected, an alert window is displayed.
    • The list of dangerous items is displayed. For each element, you can choose what to do. By default, the recommendation is to remove the dangerous element. But you can also put in quarantine (ie, the mark to say that it is not usable. You can choose later what to do about this file) or allow the file and not to the point as a threat.
    • Choose what to do and click Apply actions.
    • The infected file is deleted and quarantined. You are informed of the success of the operation. Click the Close button.
    • To access the quarantined files, double click the icon for Microsoft Security Essentials on the desktop or the Quick Launch bar.
    • Open the History tab.
    • Click on items quarantined.
    • Check the box to the item in quarantine and choose what to do. You can permanently delete the file or restore it.
