HP Pavilion dv4-1400 wireless problems

Hello there, I got this HP Pavilion dv4-1400 laptop which is installed with Windows XP service pack 2 on it as a gift. Everything was fine but from few days the laptop is not able to connect to any Wireless network. I used to access Internet on the laptop by connecting it to the Linksys wireless router. Now the laptop is not able to see any Wireless network. I am not a networking person therefore if anybody is facing wireless problems in HP Pavilion dv4-1400 laptop then please share some information. Thanks in advance.

First check the configuration of the network. The configuration of the network changes when any device is added or removed from the network. If the network configuration changes then the devices will either be not able to connect to the router or will not be able to access all the resources of the network. Therefore check the network preferences of all the devices which are connected to the network and then try to connect the laptop to the network.

Check if the drivers for the network adapters are installed and working properly on the computer. All the devices which are connected to the computer require drivers to be installed for its proper working. If the appropriate drivers are not installed then the device will not work properly. To check if proper drivers are installed and working, open the Device manager and highlight the network adapters. If there are any cautions signs follow the troubleshooting procedure and then check if you are able to connect to the network. If it does not help then try updating the drivers.

I would suggest you that check the configuration of the router. It is possible that the router is not able to see the computer and hence it is not able to connect to it. Login to the router using the computer. Enter the default IP address of the router in the address bar of the browser and press enter. Go to configuration page and then select the wireless tab. Disable the WLAN and enable it again. Select different SSID, encryption and authentication password and then save the configuration. Now reboot the router and then see if the computer is able to connect to the router.

DHCP on the router is responsible for assigning IP addresses to the computers which are connected to the router using Wireless connection. DHCP assigns the IP address to the computer which are connected using Wireless from a pool of IP addresses. If the DHCP on the router is not working properly then the router will not be able to assign IP address to the computer which is connected. Therefore try disabling the DHCP on the router and then enable it back again. To disable the DHCP on the router, connect the router to the computer using a console cable. Log in to the router and then go to the configuration tab. Disable the DHCP on the router. Note that you will have to login to the router again once the DHCP is disabled. Login to the router again and then enable the DHCP. Save the settings and reboot the router. Now try and connect the laptop to the router.
