Acer desktop not able to see Wireless network

Hello there, I am facing a very unusual problem with the ACER desktop computer which I am using. The computer is installed with Windows Vista operating system and has a Dlink wireless adapter installed on it. The problem is I am not able to connect to the Linksys wireless router using my Acer desktop computer. No wireless network can be seen on the computer. I cant understand why Acer desktop cannot connect to Wireless network. Is this some hardware issue? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly on the computer. All the devices which are connected to the computer require a set of software's to be installed on the computer so as to make the device work properly. This set of drivers are known as drivers. If the drivers are not installed on the computer, then the associated device will not work properly. To check if the appropriate drivers are installed and working properly open the Device manager and highlight the Network adapter. If there are any caution signs then follow the troubleshooting procedure. If the troubleshooting does not help then try updating the drivers.

If the Wlan on the router is not enabled then the computer will not be able to see any wireless network. Therefore check if the Wlan on the router is enabled. To check if the WLAN on the router is enabled, see if the WLAN LED on the router is glowing. If the LED is not glowing then the WLAN on the router then you will have to login to the router to enable the Wireless LAN. Login to the router using the default IP address and then go to the configuration page. Go to Wireless section and then enable the WLAN. Once enabled, select the SSID and the authentication password. Once done save and exit the configuration and reboot the router.

Try connecting the router to the computer using an Ethernet cable and then see if the computer can connect to the router. Take a straight ethernet cable and connect the computer to the router. Then open the Network connection wizard. Right click on the LAN properties. Select the TCP/IP utilities and then select properties. Contact the ISP and get a static IP address for the computer. Enter all the settings required by contacting the ISP. Once all the details are entered, save and apply the settings. Now see if the computer can maintain the connectivity to with the router.

I think some virus must have corrupted the files which are used for establishing the wireless connection and hence the computer is not able to see all the wireless networks. Scan the system with an updated antivirus and check for the infected files. If there are any system files which are infected, then repair or quarantine them and then see if the computer is able to connect to any network or not. If repairing or quarantine does not help then you will have to reinstall the Windows operating system on the computer as files of the operating system have got corrupt.

The Network card itself may be faulty and hence it is not able to see any wireless network. Every network card has a software testing port programmed which can be used to for testing purposes. To check the Network interface card, type "Ping 127.0.0.0" in the run tab. Now the command prompt window will open which will show the errors in data sent and received. If there are any errors in the data sent and received then the NIC is faulty and needs to be replaced.
