| Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet NIC not working in Windows 7
Hello people, I have a desktop computer which was installed with Windows XP. The computer has Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet NIC installed on it which worked fine with Windows XP but now when I have upgraded the operating system on the computer to Windows 7, The NIC is not working properly. The computer suffers from continues disconnection. I dont know why Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet NIC is not working in Windows 7 and hence need help. Is this some hardware issue? Or is this because of the operating system? Any suggestions regarding the topic are welcome. Thanks in advance. |

The earlier releases of Windows 7 faced some serious problems with incompatibility with many of the devices. Due to this incompatibility issue many of the devices did not work properly under Windows 7. This incompatibility issue was solved later by providing patches and fixes for the Windows 7. Download and install the patches and fixes for Windows 7 and then install it on your computer. Once all the patches and fixes are installed you will not face the same disconnection problem again. |

Check if the drivers for the NIC is installed and working properly on the computer or not. All the devices which are connected to the computer require a set of software's to be installed on the computer so that the device works properly. This set of software's are known as Drivers. If the drivers of the NIC are not installed and working properly then the device will not work properly. To check the status of the drivers and the device, go to device manager and then locate the installed Network adapters and see if there are any caution signs against it. Do the troubleshooting procedure and see if the network connections breaks frequently or not. If the troubleshooting does not helps then try updating the drivers for the network adapter. |

The symptoms which you have described indicate that there is something wrong with the hardware which is causing the disconnection of the computer form the network. Disconnection from the network only happens when the NIC is not working properly. To check if the network card is working properly or not, follow the steps below :- 1. Click on start menu and select RUN. 2. Type Ping 127.0.0.0 and hit enter. 3. Now see the error in packets received and sent. 4. If there are any errors then the NIC is faulty and needs to be replaced. |

As you have upgraded the operating system on the computer, you will have to install the appropriate drivers for the network card which is supported by the operating system which you are using. Windows 7 has lot of compatibility issue with many of the devices due to which supporting drivers are not available. Search and download the appropriate drivers for the Network Interface card which you are using and which is supported by the operating system which you are using. Once the appropriate drivers are installed, you will not face the same disconnection issue with the computer.

Many times it happens that the link which is providing the bandwidth to the computer is faulty due to which the computers which are attached to it are not able to access all the resources of the network. Hence get the link checked by the Internet service provider and if there is any fault then get it rectified by the ISP. You can also check the link by yourself by visiting the websites like Speedtest and Pingtest which provide online tests which can be performed on the link to see the performance of the link. After the tests are done, the website grade the link according to its performance.

The problem which you are facing can be due to some virus which has infected your system. Some virus's have the tendency to broadcast unnecessary data on the communication channel. Due to the broadcast of the unnecessary data, the communication channel gets flooded. If the communication channels gets flooded, then it the network disconnects the device which is creating unnecessary traffic. Hence scan the system with an updated antivirus and clean all the infected files. Once all the infected files are cleaned, check if the computer gets disconnected from the network or not. |
