Stop Mal_FakeAV-9 from entering the computer

I want someone to help me with the techniques that I can use to stop Mal_FakeAV-9 from entering the computer. I am using Windows Vista operating system and my browser is Opera 10. When the infection enters into the system, I can remove it with the help of the AVG antivirus that I have installed in my system. But, I need something that could prevent the infections from getting into the system.
