How Trojan.OSX.Jahlav.A came to your system.

Actually Trojan.OSX.Jahlav.A is trojan made for infecting the Mac OS X operating system. Trojan.OSX.Jahlav.A usually comes as a video codec or as a disk image for a keygenerator/crack for various applications. I think you must have opened one of the file of above file types. Anyway as you said that your laptop is infected by this trojan, so you may use any anti-virus software in order to remove it from your computer.

    What Trojan.OSX.Jahlav.A will do.

Actually Trojan.OSX.Jahlav.A is a trojan which affects the Mac OS X operating system. You might have installed some free software from the infected website or the software itself would be containing the trojan. Once your computer has been infected by this trojan then AdobeFlash file is created in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder and setup to periodically run. This script in turn runs another Perl script in an encoded format with the main malicious payload.

    Apple's Firewall is not useless.

Many users of Mac OS X feels that the apple's firewall is just useless because it automatically pinholes running services. Though it is not a commercial level firewall with the good GUI but it really does some good protections of your OS. Basically it prevents the access of ports opened by rootkits or trojans. Switching on the firewall on Mac OS X will block an unauthorized listeners.
