eth1 - SIOCSIFFLAGS Device or resource busy

Being the proud user of version IpCop .16, I had the bad idea to update to .17 and .18. I've been more active in blue area. Let me explain my config:

    Server 1U - 3.00Ghz - 1GB
    Card Quad port Gigabit Intel

    Red Zone: MODEM IP fixed
Orange Zone (server) IP's Fixed (192.168.100.xx)
Green Zone (work stations) DHCP 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254
    Blue Zone(laptop) DHCP 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.254

Following the update, the machine is in the blue zone and no longer had any connection (limited or no connection), I tried to force the assignment of IP (ipconfig /renew), but to no avail.

So I rebooted the ipcop and I have read

    rules firewall
siocsifflags : device or resource busy

So I searched on google, and I think it could come from a concern IRQ. Did I screwed that in the update?

Here is the complete log, the part that seems interesting is resumed below in red. I am not at all Linux Guy, but I'm ready to learn.

Re: eth1 - SIOCSIFFLAGS Device or resource busy

Which kernel do you use to boot? I think you selected the 4th choice acpi + ht.

Should we change to /boot/grub/grub.conf part acpi = ht in pci = acpi (or see none).

acpi = ht disables some of the acpi bios and modern machines are tested again without acpi and contain bugs that side. So use acpi completely and it is best to test without acpi = ht

Re: eth1 - SIOCSIFFLAGS Device or resource busy

Thank you for the interest that you brought to my worries. Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. Having removed acpi = ht or by replacing the pci = acpi issues remain the same. I wonder if something is not screwed up in the updates because I can read 2x .18. Would not it be wiser to pick up some config files and re-install from scratch? This does not please me more than that because I have to reconfigure squid, the blue area, ...

Re: eth1 - SIOCSIFFLAGS Device or resource busy

I wonder if something is not screwed up in the updates because I can read 2x .18.
I removed the lock on the application of the same update. We can now apply the same update several times, its tested like that. I think the problem is the updated e1000 driver to 7.6.12 in 1.4.17. But that does not appear very clearly in the changelog of 7.6.12.
    FIXES
    compile fixes for newer kernels.
ethtool fix for flow control settings when resetting auto-negotiation.
avoid excessive ethtool or mii-tool generated PHY reads while autonegotiating, could cause no-link condition.

    FEATURES
copy netdev feature flags to vlan devices to enable TSO or TCP checksum offload on vlan transmits.
    Update 7.6.15:
    - new 2.6.24 compatibility
    - [FIX] use return values directly from pci_resource*
from Ben Herrenschmidt, he noticed on ppc64 kernels running on 32
bit userspace, that some of the values returned here are
truncated by the size of our variables.
    - fix 2.4 kernel build error
    - [FEATURE] update some stats in real time
    - various flag cleanups
    - [FEATURE] user can now modify InterruptThrottleRate settings using ethtool -C rx-usecs N
    - [FIX] reduce binary size by making register test a function
    - [FIX] disabling TSO while vlans are enabled causes a panic
    - [FIX] semaphore fixes for ES2LAN (ESB2) phy access
    - [FEATURE] alternate MAC address support for ES2LAN(ESB2)
    - [FIX] resolve MDIC timeouts when resetting ESB2 parts if the internal BMC is enabled
    - [FIX] serdes link issues
    Update 7.6.15.4
    there is no marked
It should return to the previous version contained in update 1.4.13.
Here's what you can do to just return to the previous version of e1000

Copy Update 1.4.13 in /var/patches as patch.gpg name (no matter the name, but it must be consistent in the commands below)
    Code:
    /usr/bin/gpg --batch --homedir /root/.gnupg -o /var/patches/patch-1.tgz --decrypt /var/patches/patch.gpg
    # ls /var/patches must show patch-1.tgz and patch.gpg
    rm /var/patches/patch.gpg;# make a place

    cd /var/patches; tar zxf patch-1.tgz
    # ls /var/patches must show setup,information and patch.tar.gz
rm /var/patches/patch-1.tgz;# still makes the place

    cd /var/patches; tar zvxf patch.tar.gz -C / lib/modules/2.4.34*/kernel/drivers/net/e1000/e1000.o.gz

    # normally you have 2 modules (normal and smp) extracts

    # restart the system by reloading the module restored
    /usr/local/bin/restartnetwork
and then defer especially if this changed something.
