| Why all Files extensions are changing to .VBS?
Hello, I have an Acer laptop which is installed with Windows Vista on it. The problem which I am facing is very unique. The extensions of all the files are changing to .VBS and then they become inaccessible. I have searched for the solutions online but I am not able to find any. Mainly the files affected by this are MP3 songs and JPG files. So if anybody knows Why all Files extensions are changing to .VBS then please share some solutions so that I am able to solve the problem. Is this because of some virus? or Is this because the hard drive corruption? Please help. Thanks in Advance. |

It is possible that the hard drive of your laptop is giving up. The hard drive failure in computers can be gradual or can be immediate. In gradual hard drive failure the hard disk first loses the format in which it was initially formatted or develops some bad clusters on it which make some or many files inaccessible. I think your hard drive is getting corrupted and hence all the files are gradually becoming inaccessible. Hence take the back up of all the Important data as the hard drive can become completely useless anytime. |

Windows Vista faces bugs related to extensions of the files. There is some serious problem in Windows Vista, if the windows is not installed properly on the system then it creates miscellaneous problems while using certain files. Many of the files are not able to maintain there extension type in Windows vista. To solve this problem you will have to install the file extension fix for Windows Vista which can be downloaded for specific files which are not able to maintain there extensions in the Windows operating system. These fix's are available online which can be downloaded and installed on the computer. |

By looking at the problem it is clear that the system is infected by some virus which is changing the extensions of the files and making them inaccessible to the user. Virus's have the tendency to create problems in smooth working of the system. Hence Scan the system with some updated antivirus and then check if there are any files which are infected by any virus. If there are any infected files then repair or quarantine them and then see if the extensions of the files still change or not. Do not delete any files as it may lead to total system failure. |

I dont think it is a Virus problem because all the security software's on my computer are up to date. I am using Avast antivirus which has resident real time shield on which protects the computer from any virus attack. Hence virus problem is out of the question. So if there are any other possibility then please let me know. |

The Avast Antivirus which you are using Itself is corrupted by the Virus. To be sure search and find Cleanvirus.vbs file on the system. This file is a virus which infects the virus database of the Avast Antivirus due to which it is not able to detect the virus on the system. Therefore you will have to use free online scan facility which is provided by Kaspersky and Mcaffe. Perform a online virus scan and clean all the infected files. The online scanner will be able to detect all the infected files. Repair or quarantine the infected files and the extensions of the files will stop changing. Be sure to delete the Cleanvirus.vbs file as it may corrupt more files. |
