Configuring Http and Https with IIS

    Hello,

I have two questions about the IIS as a Web server. I want to make sure again, maybe I think in the wrong direction. With an SSL certificate, it is indeed possible, but I want to ask can we configuring Http and Https with IIS. As requests from the intranet of queries can be separated from the extranet? Intranet communication should be handled through normal HTTP requests, whereas extranet is designed to answer questions via HTTPS. How is this possible?

You have to communicate to the computer using different names. But why internally via HTTP? That makes no sense. A SPLIT DNS configuration should work. You are managing "internal" in the external domain as the AD at your own forward Lookup Zone. Then you can configure the IIS so that it relates to a specific IP address (internal) on which it will also addressed internally on port 80.

For your purpose, you can also use the Microsoft ISA Server. Through SSL bridging can then external requests from the ISA Server HTTPS to HTTP based on the Web Publishing be redirected. If ISA Server is not available you can then request via various solutions, through DNS requests, corresponding to redirect.

Many thanks for your answer. A question comes to my web server from outside, say from the Internet. One requirement is for example that need external inquiries running over HTTPS. For internal traffic reaches HTTP. The external user should have as little effort to reach in the http address bar () are thus diverted.

In Windows Server 2008, you can add a redirection to the top level (master). This setting is passed to the lower levels. When inherited a lower level which will not use this setting to Click under the HTTP Redirect functionality for this particular level the box diversion requirements for this goal. These options are available for the virtual directories that are physically located in the IIS Manager so far. But can not for directories that only as a virtual directory (for example, Exchange, ExchWeb and Public) are available, the Redirect requests to this target checkbox.
