What is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

    Hi,

I have heard about CDPD wireless modem but I don't know about CDPD. So can anyone tell me what is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

Re: What is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) is the technology that marks a new era in wireless data communication. Using the infrastructure of existing cellular network and the frequency channels, this technology enables operators of wireless networks AMPS/D- AMPS, not only to provide voice services but also data packets for wireless internet. This makes D-AMPS/AMPS the first global mobile system that supports both services, voice and data package. The design specification for CDPD is based on open architecture, using recognized standards and existing technology. Thus, the new wireless data system can be deployed quickly and competitively.

Re: What is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

CDPD optimizes packet switching as the data transfer is routed individually through the network. This improves data transfer and makes optimal use of the frequency spectrum. Depending on the profile of traffic and applications, many hundreds of users can share the same channel. CDPD technology allows data transport with high quality. As the name says, CDPD is digital and brings with it associated benefits in the airlink. The security is guaranteed by automatic encryption methods all data and authentication of all mobile users.

Re: What is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

CDPD modems provide transmission capacity for stationary and mobile applications. They are used to transmit small amounts of data, also provide an instant response to process transactions, since they have no delays in dialing. CDPD modems are adjusted to a range of fixed and mobile applications, in which include: telemetry, SCADA, public safety, and financial services. These modems allow entering the company's internal network to access files and databases, thereby facilitating the work. It also allows the sending and receiving emails and the Internet connection wirelessly.

Characteristic of the CDPD modem :

Among the features and benefits we offer these devices include:

    · Connectivity: provides instant wireless access to email, Internet, corporate database to personal computers, laptops, PAD and Handheld PC's.

    · Portability: most of these modems are small and lightweight and can be used anywhere where available Wireless IP service, which is not limited to equipment connected to the modem to remain in a fixed position.

    · Security: When using the wireless IP network, with its methods of encoding and encryption, it is virtually impossible for unauthorized users to decrypt the messages.

    · Reliability: wireless IP network ensures that data arrives safely at its destination. If the connection is interrupted during transmission, these devices are able to connect to the network and transmitting or receiving the message.

Re: What is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

It is a system for transmitting digital data without cables, which aims to improve the performance of the existing analog cellular technology. The system is based on IBM technology CelluPlan II and applies to existing overlay networks AMPS / TDMA. Thus, technology can be implemented quickly and with few specific devices - reuse of cellular frequency spectrum, cell planning, power equipment, equipment RBS site, the transport connection and antenna system - in any location where cellular service is available, without having to deploy a new mobile network. CDPD modems are manufactured by companies such as Sierra Wireless, Novatel, and AirCard.

Re: What is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)?

CDPD technology was developed as a wireless extension to an IP network and uses four-octet addresses (0.0.0.0) for connections. CDPD modems have been developed for portable PC cards and other mobile devices. The system allows data transmission speeds of 19.2 Kbps voice channels between the network that are not being used. Many wireless ISP's support CDPD modems, including Airlink, Alltel, AT & T Wireless Services, EarthLink Wireless, Globicom Wireless, Telus Mobility, and Verizon Wireless.
