    Server to PC

I built my own PC, and it has been running for about 3 years now. My new venture is to build a server. Actually the server is built. I am getting ready to install the OS, (CentOS5.3), and I know I have to have an internet connection. My current service is broadband/DSL modem, with a router for up to 4 PCs, but eventually I will be getting a static IP, dedicated line for the server. (everything is in my house).

Is there any way to get the server up and running and tested internally? What I'm asking is, can I communicate with this server from my PC, by assigning it an ip address behind the router?

    Server hardware:
    .CentOS5.3 hosting server
.MOBO has 2 Quadcore Xeon processors
    .8G DIMM
    .SCSI primary drive
    .onboard Ethernet

I guess this would fall under basic networking, but I don't know how this works.

Server on PC is not a good idea and it can't match the facilities provided at the Data Center. Also the factors of security, scalability and reliability matters a lot for such server.

I have a pc, it is a separate build, stand alone. The PC is online.

I built a physical server, that is a separate machine. The server is not online yet.

    Four pc are online now.?

Are you using same subnet for the server.?
Can you provide your private ip address.. how may ethernet card you have in your server.
can you elaborate this issue. with more details.

    Re: Server to PC

The ethernet is onboard, on mobo. There are no ethernet cards, perse.

Broadband modem allows 2 PCs. My router expands that to 4 connections. All connections are behind the modem.

I have 1 PC online. ipconfig reveals
    IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.2
    DEFAULT GATEWAY: 192.168.0.1

I was going to try and connect the server to the second open connection on the modem, but haven't yet. I've decided to get a second line for the server with static IP. I was just wondering if I could test the server from behind the current broadband connection I have, prior to putting it on it's own line.
