I built my own PC, and it has been running for about 3 years now. My new venture is to build a server. Actually the server is built. I am getting ready to install the OS, (CentOS5.3), and I know I have to have an internet connection. My current service is broadband/DSL modem, with a router for up to 4 PCs, but eventually I will be getting a static IP, dedicated line for the server. (everything is in my house).
Is there any way to get the server up and running and tested internally? What I'm asking is, can I communicate with this server from my PC, by assigning it an ip address behind the router?
Server hardware:
.CentOS5.3 hosting server
.MOBO has 2 Quadcore Xeon processors
.8G DIMM
.SCSI primary drive
.onboard Ethernet
I guess this would fall under basic networking, but I don't know how this works.
