Here is the procedure to follow:
- Go to Start-> Run then type the following command "shutdown-i" Then OK
- A dialog box appears, Click on the button Add ... to add the computers you want by entering the IP address of the post or name.
- If you want to search jobs in your network click Browse. A dialog box appears and then you start looking if Active Directory is not installed on your network. You'll get an error.
- Then you must select the task to perform: Stop system, Restart or Close Session. Check Notify users of the action if you want a warning message appears in the position of the user. It is advisable to increase the runtime of a warning for the user to save work in progress before the action.
- To save the event in Event Viewer you should indicate the cause of action, eg "stopped because of maintenance equipment ,..."
This command is handy if you're in a big park information or if you have remote sites. If you can log into the remote PC with Remote Desktop (not sure if its available on XP Home) the you can press 'Ctrl + Alt + End' while in the session and select 'Shut Down' which will turn of the remote PC .
Try Poweroff, google it and download it. It is small program for windows operating systems to schedule a shutdown, restart, logoff, poweroff, Standby, Hibernate, Lock, Wake-On-LAN at a certain time. Poweroff also supports line options control which allows termination for use in batch scripts. It has a built-in scheduler, it allows you to run a program before taking action, you can give a warning to the user, a process expected to be completed before taking action and Remote Control track is supported.
LanHelper is another tool like poweroff, Want to turn off & turn on remote computers immediately or at a later time? Just get LanHelper. This program can schedule a shutdown on your local computer, so you can schedule a shutdown to run after 10 minutes, then you go out.
