Does all the cracks and keygens are malicious

I want to know that does all keygens and cracks are infected with virus. If yes then how. I am downloading some software's from a site. I used that frequently. But my friend has mailed me a list of sites which has lots of free stuff with their cracks. I am fearing to download due to virus issue. I will not take the risk of downloading them and infecting my system. Thanks in advance.
