Linksys WRT54G Wireless

I have a Linksys WRT54G router that I connected to my laptop with no problem. My OS is Vista, still no problem. When I tired to connect my SO laptop to his router which happens to be the same router, I keep getting the error message, can not communicate with DNS server, and it gives me an IP address. I have unplugged the router, did a system restore on his laptop, disconnect and reconnect, made sure all of the protocols in the properties for TCP/IP were set to default, restarted the laptop, reset the router with the reset button and we still get that error. Needless to say I am frustrated because I did not go through this with my laptop. I even had the router and the modem connected directly to the laptop thinking that would make a difference and it did not. I thought it was the router, so I connected the modem directly to the laptop, this did not change a thing, I still could not get on the internet. Any insights on what could be going on?

I would try the ip release from the command prompt.
1. click the windows icon or the 'start' button in the lower left corner.
2. if you are running Vista then just type 'cmd' and press 'enter'
3. once the command prompt screen opens up, type 'ipconfig /release
then type ipconfig/renew.
Maybe this will release the current ip on the laptop and replace it with a working one.

I also have a linksys WRT54G router. I have a desktop pc with winxp pro. 2 laptops, one with vista and one with xp pro. All three are connected to this router.

I have the same router with three different pc's connected. 2 with winxp pro, one with vista. oh, and the xbox uses this router as well. Occasionally I have to reset my router, or use the ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
