Is Encryption enough to protect wi-fi Network

    Hi,
I used my Netbook most frequently on public spots. But the free internet hotspot are not safer to use. I use always a encrypted network to access the wi-fi zone. But this gives trouble sometime. What are more way to protect a wireless network from hackers. Is there any specific tool which is designed for this. The most common issue lies with virus attacks. How to prevent them basically. Thanks in advance.

Today due to wide use of internet the users are more prone to common attacks like virus and hacks. Today smarter ways are used to create more malicious viruses and applications. But if you prevent that before then you can make your system is safe. It is really better to use Encryption policies to protect the network. Because this gives you a better protection to an great extent.

In a wi-fi network the data is transfer via air from one PC to another. So if the data is unencrypted then it can be hacked by any unauthorized service. While on the Ethernet the data moves via cable. So it reaches the destination and in the same way on wi-fi the data lies open for any hack. That is why it is said that if you apply encryption policies on your computer then you can get much safer.

Whenever you are configuring a wireless network then the first thing you have to is to create a powerful password. That is means your password must not contain only numbers. Create a strong passphrase in order to configure the settings of WEP. In this way your encryption becomes more powerful and safer. This WEP scheme is called as Wired Equivalent Privacy.

There are many way of protection a wi-fi network. A other way which I use is configuring the computer with a Static IP address. Always keep your firewall on and keeps a password protected LAN network. Many wireless network has integrated NAT firewall. You can use this. This NAT means network address translation. It is uses to hide your IP. Make sure that your firewall is on always and keep your antivirus up to date.

One thing which harms the user is a an easy setup of any network connection by using a third party tool. Because this software are buggy and they open a security hole in your computer. This allows anyone to enter easily. Some points to remember under this is keep your DHCP off. Use a manually assinged static IP. If you use the same your network becomes more secure and safe.
