| Intermittent Connection on SBC
I am using SBC and have a DSL service from them. I have been using this connection for years now, but have never face such a weird issue ever. My internet connection keeps on dropping every now and then. I have a Dlink Router which is connected to my computer through Ethernet cable and i am using Win Vista. And all this problem started a few weeks ago, I was watching a video on youtube and suddenly it stopped in middle, So i closed the browser and opened it again but then it failed to connect to google which is my default homepage. I tried other different pages but that did not worked. So then i powercycled my modem and tried then too it did not worked infact i was not able to access my modem's default page also. But then it worked fine the next day. And again it was down after 2 days. And now it is always not working every alternate day. I spoke to SBC and they say everything is fine on the line. And when I am not able to connect through computer at that time if I try connecting through Xbox 360 then I am able to connect. So it is obvious that there is some issue with my computer or network between my computer and modem. Wat do i do. Please help. |

| Bypass your Router
Okay as you said that you have power cycled your modem but have you tried connecting the modem directly to the computer. To do that you have to unplug the router and connect the modem directly to your computer through Ethernet cable. With this we will come to know if there is any problem with the router or the modem or with the computer. |

| Not able to bypass the Router
I tried to connect my modem directly to my computer but I am not able to do so. It is very confusing. There is a phone line connected to the modem and then I have a Ethernet cable connected to from the modem to the router and then there is another Ethernet cable connected between my Router and my Computer. So I tried to unplug all the cable from the router and connect it directly to the modem but I am really confused with that, which cable should be connected to which port. Please can you explain it again. |

| Check the modem connection and the IP Address
You have to unplug all the cable from the router and then connect only one Ethernet cable between the modem and the computer and the telephone line will be connected to the modem. Check your connections properly again and you should be able to bypass your modem. After doing this check the IP address, you should have a valid IP address otherwise you will not be able to connect to internet. To check the IP address of your computer click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center then under connections click on status then click on details. Now the IP address which you see over there should not start with 127 or 0 or 169. If it is any of this three then powercycle your computer and modem and that should solve the problem.
