Win32/FakeCog detected as Trojan

Sponsored Links
I am confused about an infection that my AVG anti virus is displaying. I had connected my computer to internet from the last month and I had downloaded a trial version of AntiMalware Safebrowser security tool. Initially I had no issues but of late this security tool started generating pop-ups to register the anti-virus and also displays that my computer is attacked by a Remote Host. I installed AVG last week and now AVG detects the AntiMalware Safebrowser security tool to contain a Trojan as Win32/FakeCog. What to do?

Fake security tool

I believe that the security tool you initially installed is a fake security tool. Might be that a malicious website has made this tool to confuse the viewers of it as being a original security tool. Put forward any screenshots or alert messages displayed by either AVG or the AntiMalware Safebrowser anti virus programs.

AntiMalware Safebrowser

Here are the screen shots for the alerts generated by the AntiMalware Safebrowser security tool.

I have uninstalled AVG as it is being giving rapid alerts and hence I am interrupted while working on my computer.

Trojan: Win32/FakeCog

The AntiMalware Safebrowser is a fake security tool. This tool contains the Trojan: Win32/FakeCog. The user is prompted to purchase the Registration key for the AntiMalware Safebrowser using untrue infection alerts. You need to install AVG anti virus and delete this fake tool using your AVG anti virus. Never download any software from unknown websites.

Safe Mode to remove Win32/FakeCog

Disconnect you computer from the internet temporarily. Un-install the security program: AntiMalware Safebrowser. Remove it from the Add/Remove Programs section. Restart your system to Safe Mode by clicking the f8 key. Scan your computer using your AVG anti virus in Safe Mode to delete the Trojan

System Restore Utility

Use the System Restore Utility to restore your computer settings to an earlier date. This will help you to get your computer restored to the earlier settings where in this fake software was not installed. To Restore your system:
Quote:
Go to Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore
Select a restore point prior to the installation of the fake software and restore your computer. Later on boot your system to safe mode and scan with AVG anti virus to delete if any instances are left of Win32/FakeCog trojan.
