    Types of WiFi security

What are the different types of options available in WiFi security. I have used my laptop on a hot spot which has caused virus in the system. I re-installed Windows and now if I use again internet on a hot spot then again the virus can enter. What are different types of wi-fi security available.

The WiFi allows therefore the connection between multiple computers via air, but how to protect data passing through. The answer is encryption. The WiFi encrypts data in transit, so the data can be read only if you know the key. Like WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption is 40, 64, 128 or 256 bits. Unfortunately this algorithm has several flaws that makes it vulnerable now. This algorithm does not protect your network, it is very easy to break into your network if it is protected by WEP.

WEP is characterized by a WEP key. It is entered on the required extension to connect to WiFi network, and should therefore keep this secret key. WPA implements the majority of the IEEE 802.11i standard. WPA is intended as an alternative to WEP until IEEE 802.11i is completed (May 2004). WPA supports 802.11b and 802.11g (and works with hardware not supporting these standards).

The WPA is characterized by a sentence, so, you must enter that phrase in connection to the network, and should therefore keep this passphrase. WPA2 is 100% compatible IEEE 802.11i. The WPA2 does not work with 802.11b and 802.11g. It is also possible to filter on MAC addresses, ie accept connections to the wireless network that some network card from its MAC address. The MAC address is the unique identifier of a NIC (network interface or other).
