The WLAN is based on the standard IEEE 802.11, which is itself is broken down into several protocol. The two most common commercially are 802.11b and 802.11g. It offers a limited range of wireless connectivity between different hardware systems. The common one is bluetooth.

    Re: Introduction on WiFi

The 802.11b standard offers a range of 300 meters with a theoretical throughput of 11 Mbits / s or about 1.2 Mb / s. The frequency range used is the 2.4 GHz band with which maximum 3 non-overlapping. The 802.11g standard is most common in commerce today. It offers a high speed (54 Mbit / s theoretical is therefore 7 MB / s).

    Re: Introduction on WiFi

The standard 802.11ga backward compatible with 802.11b, meaning that materials comply with the 802.11g standard can operate in 802.11b. This ability allows new equipment to offer 802.11g while remaining compatible with existing networks that are often still 802.11b. To operate the infrastructure mode needs an access point (AP) which may for example be a wireless router. Each computer using the network card will connect to the AP. This is generally the method that is used by individuals and businesses.

The Ad-Hoc: In the ad-hoc mode, each computer acts of ISSUER and receiver. The connection between each computer requires no special equipment except for a wireless network card. This mode is convenient if a fast connection between computers. The use of wireless frequencies from 2.412 GHz to 2.484 GHz, to each frequency channel.
