    WinNT/Bancos infection

Last week one of my friend's Dad's laptop was infected by a WinNT/Bancos infection. I have never heard this kind of any infection earlier. Is it a Worm, Trojan or Virus? What damage does it really does to the system? Can we delete it? His dad was using Compaq Presario CQ40-400 laptop. Is this an issue with the laptop itself?

This is a virus from the family of Win32/Bancos. This is a very dangerous threat as it will directly attack the online banking transactions. This is also includes stealing of bank account passwords and even credit card passwords also. Even the online banking login names are used for creating fraud accounts. Brazilian bank account holders were attacked on a large scale.

WinNT/Bancos is a Trojan that displays itself as components of Microsoft. The following Trojan droppers MsGenuine.exe and microsoftgenuinexp.exe are responsible for dropping Trojans to infect user systems. Since they easily mimic themselves as Microsoft components very well it is indeed difficult to detect them. They also lower you security to make it easy for the attacker to access your sensitive data.

This virus is already rated High Alert Level by Microsoft. If your are doing banking transactions through internet then this virus infection can steal your bank account password and login information. To help secure your system from such threats always have an up-to-date anti virus installed in your machine. If your are not having any anti virus installed try downloading Norton Internet Security 2009 to protect your machine from such malicious threats.
