Concept of remote access

I am I.T student and I have confusion regarding the concept of remote access. I don't know what is the purpose behind remote access. Is this any special type of access over internet or what?

Can you help me to understand the remote access concept.

In the field of telecommunication following are the different meaning of the remote access:

*. To communication with a data processing facility from a remote location or data link facility. VPN is the example of this
*. Remote desktop software
*. PABX feature allows a user which at the remote location to access using PABX features of telephone'

Following are the information which will help you to understand remote access concept:

1. The ability of getting access to a computer from remote distance is called as remote acess.

2. Users get access to the internet using remote access to the ISP (Internet service provider).

3. Remote access is also possible by dedicated line between a computer and the central local area network.

Hi all,

The only information which is I know regarding remote access is that "remote access is a BBS software package (MS-DOS Bulletin Board System).
This software was developed using Turbo Pascal language along with some assembly language.

Other than this I am not aware regarding remote access.
