| Migrate local vista profile to domain
Hello all. I realize to some this might be a pretty simple fix, so please don't flame me too bad for asking. I can assure you I've spent hours searching threads and trying different configs before writing this. I work for a small company (5 employees) that is running SBS2003 R2. We recently purchased some new computers and also hired 2 more sales people. Unfortunately we do not have a dedicated IT person; I have graciously inherited the role! Whenever we do something large (i.e. setup the server) we contract through a local company; however, they are too expensive to call for everything. I was hoping this would be along the lines of a smaller, simple fix. For the new employees I have created their domain accounts through Active Directory and set-up their Exchange accounts as well. The problems I am having are when they login to their computers (all are using Vista) they are not logging into the domain. The biggest problem this is giving me is that because of this all of their mapped drives do not reconnect at login. For the current employees with new computers I am having the same problems. My other problem I am having is that I cannot link some of the computers "My Documents" to a network drive folder. When I right click and try to change the location I don't get that tab in the properties window. On one of the computers I can't even open the folder. I'd appreciate any info anyone could lend. I can supply any specific info if you need more. Thanks in advance for everything! |

Join the domain-> Log in as the new domain user, and log out immediately-> Log back in as an account with admin rights on the box -> Go to control panel->Click on system->Click on advanced-> in User Profiles, click on the Settings button-> Select the local user's profile, click on Copy To, and browse to the new domain user's c:\documents and settings\username folder->then click OK-> Click the Change button in Permitted to use Select the domain\username account you just copied. I hope this will help you.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows Vista. Sounds like the results of coping files and not a proper domain upgrade procedure. For more information you need to check out the following links. I think you need to translate local profiles as a separate step from the user account migration process. Select User profiles option on the Translate Objects page of the Security Translation Wizard. Translate local user profiles for a batch of users immediately after migrating those users.
