FCoE or iSCSI?

Hello,
I am maintaing the network for media agency. Here we have 40-45 clients.all are share the same network. we are using the normal TCP/IP configuration. but firm has decided to move forward for the reason of security.so i want to know about the FCoE(Fibre Channel over Ethernet) is good to apply in our network.Or should i stick with previously iSCSI. anyone can help out this?? Any suggestion??

Re: FCoE or iSCSI?

FCoE (Fiber Channel over Ethernet) is a new protocol was announced recently. This protocol can enable SAN traffic to be natively transported over Ethernet networks, while protecting and extending the investment that customers have in the FC storage networks. The proposal of a new direct mapping of Fiber Channel over Ethernet has the support of industry, including key suppliers, Brocade, Cisco, EMC, Emulex, IBM, Intel, Nuova, QLogic and Sun Microsystems. This group has proposed the creation of a new specification FCoE Technology Committee T11 of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Re: FCoE or iSCSI?

iSCSI, a cheaper alternative to Fiber Channel, has also been proposed as a potential unifying standard for data center networking.FCoE is not a storage protocol, it is just a new means of transport for Fiber Channel , Fiber Channel sees a link FCoE as another type of physical media and nothing else. iSCSI loses any relationship with Fiber Channel (some claim that May is a good thing ...) and is a new transport for SCSI, which implies a more substantial change to the stack.iSCSI storage is perfect for environments where n 'there is no inheritance Fiber Channel and perhaps there is no computer skills around existing Fiber Channel. Medium Small companies will benefit greatly from the iSCSI.

Re: FCoE or iSCSI?

iSCSI is complementary to Fiber Channel, serving different market needs. ISCSI addresses a typical outside the data center, and provides SAN technology for those without an extensive infrastructure Fiber Channel. FCoE is designed to provide unified support thread in the data center. The improvements will benefit iSCSI deployments with Ethernet Fiber Channel over Ethernet deployments.Fibre Channel over Ethernet storage protocol, it is just a new means of transport for Fiber Channel, Fiber Channel sees a link FCoE as a different type of physical media. FCoE enables easier coexistence between Fiber Channel and Ethernet-based storage networks, and it represents a milestone easier and less towards Unified Fabric. My point of view you shouls stay with iSCSI .
