    AirPort Extreme Card Not Recognized

    Hi,

I upgraded from my mac powerbook G4. After the upgrade my computer would not recognize my airport extreme card. I checked the network settings on my system preferences and it said no Airport Hardware found. Same thing happened when I checked the system info on the profiler. Is there any Unix commands I could try to get the computer to recognize the airport card?

Try re-installing the mac os x update using the combo installer (download from Apple site)If it were just a software not seeing it issue, I'd expect it to show up as something in the hardware info.

Flex Your Airport Extreme card cage cable connection to the logic board in the PowerBook can be unsafe. Remove the cover from the top of your PowerBook, In the case above the road, the Airport card cage is the one along the left edge of the logic board nearest the battery compartment. Press down firmly with a finger or two in the rectangular connector on the end of that tan / orange flexible cable. If you feel or hear that changing even a small amount is released, and now must be properly seated.

While you're there, you could also check with the other twelve connectors too. Next, put things together and test to see if the Airport Extreme card is detected and working again.

I would say if your PowerBook is running fine apart from the Airport Extreme card not being recognized, the problem is much more likely to be a simple bad connection does not cost anything to fix anything that would require replacing the logic board.

The AirPort Extreme Card requires AirPort 3.0 software or later, which is not available for Mac OS 9. To use AirPort, start the computer up in Mac OS X. Follow these steps:

    1. Open the Startup Disk control panel.
    2. Choose the Mac OS X startup disk.
    3. Close the control panel.
    4. Restart the computer.
