Re: Extend the range of wireless router

You'll need to check the firmware of the WRT54G to see if it includes a "bridge" mode. This mode allows access points to talk to other access points to build essentially a wireless link. Not all Linksys routers / access points to this feature. I'm not one of these in the laboratory to check for you. If yours does not, you should check to see if you are installing the latest firmware might provide that. Attend an older version may be necessary. A site can do is check Sveasoft. Depending on the version of your hardware, you may find that the third operating system installed on your router can give you the desired functionality. The normal level of power they use is somewhere in the range 24 MW,. Most "business" grade routers / access points are in the order of 100 mW. If you do not have the budget to go to a "business" grade router / access point, this is another area where Sveasoft and other providers may be able to help. It is possible - depending on the hardware you have - what you might be able to return the transmitter power. Keep in mind that Linksys did not intend that to happen, running so the router to a higher power could mean a shorter life and require replacement sooner than if you let the power level set by the factory.

Re: Extend the range of wireless router

You have to check is antennas. You will probably need to use an external antenna. Using a directional antenna will do two things - give you the signal in the direction you need and minimize others trying to get on your network connection. You need high-grade coax, such as LMR400,It minimize signal loss between the router and antenna. Put the router as close as possible to the antenna to maximize the signal going to and from the antenna. The more directional antenna, you can get, the more concentrated the signal will be at the receiving end. This may also mean that you may have to periodically realign the antennas so they point directly to each other. Another thing to consider is the strength of the issuer of your router. Linksys routers are known for not having the strongest transmitter.

Re: Extend the range of wireless router

Additional access point has been physically installed and put on a high pedestal near the stairs in the hallway. The AP is connected to the wireless router the burrow with a long CAT5 cable. The result is a total convergence of the house with people signal. Many right to extend wireless coverage by connecting a second wireless router, configured as an access point to the main wireless router which is connected to Internet modem.Wireless Repeater actually cut the bandwidth in half. (As switching between transmit and receive with a single radio). However if used correctly, it will increase the distance. Given that the price of wireless routers is much lower than the price of access points, many people to extend coverage by connecting a second wireless router connected to a modem, and put in a second location on the site.
