I can connect to the Router but not the internet

Hi please HELP!!!

I brought back my other laptop back home (running on Vista). I managed to connect to the Router, but not to the Internet. I checked on the Router and it's running on DHCP. Then I changed the settings to PPoIP (or something like that... sorry I am not technical...) and put in the ISP username and password. Then my computer worked and connected to the internet, but not my family one....

Please help!! What can I do to get both machines connected to the internet at the same time, without me doing the silly "when I use mine I switch the settings on the Router and when I finish I switch it back to DHCP"....

Many thanks!

Why did you change your settings to PPoIP? Isnt internet working for both on DHCP?

What type of internet do you use? Is it a PPPoE? You have to select appropriate option in the router to make it work. Call your ISP, they might help you...

Re: I can connect to the Router but not the internet

Hi Mr Boo Bear,

No I did not intend to change it to PPoIP, it's just the way I am most familiar with, and the most common way I have come across.

Some tech people helped my mum to set up the DHCP connection with her laptop. But for some reason I couldn't connect my laptop to the internet... it just showed that I am connected to the router but not the internet.... something seems to be blocking it.... but not sure what.

I tried to call my ISP, but since my router wasn't purchased from them they wouldn't help, as they said they have no resources on other companies' equipment.

any idea what happened? thanks
