Re: Set Up an FTP Server on Windows Server 2003

FTPService.exe is a NT service-version of Quick ’n Easy FTP Server. Windows XP includes a built-in FTP service component that lets FTP clients connect to the machine and read or write files, however, this service doesn't install by default. If you must allow FTP, disable anonymous access. If you must allow anonymous access, modify the NTFS permissions to disable write access. If you must allow write access, disable creation of directories. You will still be vulnerable to the DoS in any case.

Quick ‘n Easy FTP Service includes a Control Panel Configuration Applet to configure user accounts and other parameters of the server. You can use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Internet Information Services snap-in to configure the FTP service (go to Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, then click Internet Information Services). This service enables you to have the FTP server active even when you're not logged into Windows. Service applications are often loaded at bootup, before any user logs in, and are independent of any specific user being logged on at any time.

Re: Set Up an FTP Server on Windows Server 2003

In order to set up an FTP Server on your Windows Server 2003, you can check out the following link. In Windows Server 2003, the FTP Service is not installed by default when you install IIS. Because a service runs in the background it does not have an user interface. FTP depends on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), IIS and the FTP Service must be installed on the computer.
