The wired ethernet speed is 100 Mbps, and there is probably less interference than you would get using the wireless at the lower speed. WiFi can often run at less than the speed of your broadband and so becomes the bottleneck.

It is quite normal for wireless speeds to be lower than ethernet. It may depend on where your access point is located. There are many factors which effect wireless speed, these include the quality of the signal, local interference and your buildings structural issues.

The wireless rates should be much closer to the wired rates. The speed of a wireless network depends on several factors particularly the protocols being used. If you are getting low speed on wireless network then try moving the wireless machine closer to the router and see if the speed doesn't pick up. The signal range a WiFi wireless network supports also affects its overall speed.
