VPN Error code : 628

Hi,

I am trying to connect from home to my office Windows vista VPN - I am getting an error code 628, trying to authenticate the username and pasword. On the same LAN as the problem PC I've just set up another PC using the same settings for the VPN and it connects just fine. Does anyone have any other ideas as to what more I need to do to enable this?

Try the following things :

1. Booting the system "Safe Mode with Networking" and then establish the VPN connection and see if the problem reoccurs.

2. Please check your firewall settings and ensure that the port that is used by VPN was not locked.

3. If your computer is connected to a router, please skip the router to see if it works.

4. Check if other computers running Windows Vista on the same network can establish this VPN connection.

First make sure any software firewalls are disabled on the vista machine. Some other security software will also block PPTP VPN's like Windows One Care, some versions of Trend Micro, Symantic A/V and others. Check your VPN server has establish a VPN connection from workstation within your network. Use your internal IP address. If this works it is likely that the router is not forwarding GRE protocol 43 or TCP port 1723 as the Internet to your VPN server.

Depending on your router / firewall. GRE may allow his name or their IP protocol number (47). Some SOHO routers always called PPTP Pass-Through mode. What ever it is called, VPN will fail unless you can pass GRE the router / firewall.
