Re: vulnerability in Dsl router

well , there is nothing that is not Vulnerable , but you can make sure that you follow certain Standard Security Guidelines to Avoid common and Easy Attacks to your network, First, it would be nice to know what type of router you have ... Let Say you have a Cisco, then these are the steps to follow to Secure to your router :

1. Log in to the Admin/configuration of your router (192.168.1.1) by typing the address in your browser. If you never change the username and password, the original ones should be:

USER NAME: admin
PASSWORD: admin

2. Now that we are in the router options, go to wireless security tab. You should see a WEP tab. Most router offers a WEP key generator. You choose your type of key (64 bits or 128 bits) and enter a phrase. The generator will create a key. So I suggest you create a 128-bit key because it will take longer to hack you network , if someone want to do it . Put a complex sentence such as: I secure my router.

3.The generator will create a key of 26 hex-digits, numbers and letters. Take note of the first key and hold the paper close as we'll use later.

4.. Now, your network is protected by a key

Yes, it is better to change password, and the name of the administrator, at the same time. Otherwise, someone can connect via WiFi on your router and make these changes to your router Settings , It is also necessary that you take a look at different models of wireless routers and verify their specifications. Companies like D-Link came out with an excellent high performance wireless routers. Other manufacturers of wireless routers Linksys, Netgear, and Belkin. Routers these companies have excellent performance ratings.

Re: vulnerability in Dsl router

A new botnet, called "psyb0t" is able to directly infect routers and DSL modems. The first activity of the botnet has been detected in Australia, where it infected a Netcomm NB5 (Modem Router). The botnet has been analyzed more thoroughly by members DroneBL analyzing and seeking real-time zombies, vulnerable machines. The latter concluded that "psyb0t" is "in testing". The botnet attempts only to demonstrate its technology. The first generation target very few models of routers.

However, the botnet more recently discovered (named "version 18") covers a wider range of modems / routers. The file contains the code to attack more than 30 different models from Linksys, Netgear and 10 other varieties of cable modems and DSL (fifteen). A list of 6,000 names and 13,000 users passwords were also included. This list is used to force entry Telnet and SSH (for open connections), and WAN to the public side. Usually, routers do not have a locking system or use a combination vulnerable (ie admin: admin). What makes it possible and very simple attacks such as "brute force".

Re: vulnerability in Dsl router

Everything has a wifi network name: SSID (Service Set IDentifier). The Next step is to change the name and hide at the sight of malicious users. In the configuration utility of your router, change the default SSID name to avoid it is too simple. Then disable the SSID broadcast of your wireless network by checking the box, it should not appear in the list of possible connections to your neighbors.
