Mac OSX leopard and Network Printer

I am very new to Mac OSX and I want to define network printer on Mac OS X Leopard. I have a HP laserjet printer connected on a Hewlett Packard JetDirect 300X network box. The printers work fine in Windows but now in Mac, so can anyone gimme a remedy for it. Thank you

Could you please describe the different types of step of the process of adding the printer are you having trouble with? What have you done so far in trying to set up the printer? What, specifically, do you need help with? I think that you will have to go outside Apple & HP to get a printer driver. You will have to get the opensource printer package HPIJS for Mac OS X from here.

This is directly from the apple support site:
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard uses Bonjour to locate shared printers on your local network, but it does not display printers shared by Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9 which are broadcast to the network using the "cups" protocol. The steps below will allow Mac OS X 10.5 to locate shared printers which are being announced to the network using the "cups" protocol:

    1. Open Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities).

    2. Type or paste this command, followed by Return:

    cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"'

The next time you add a printer, you should see printers shared by Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9. These printers will display "Shared Printer" in the Kind column. You may see printers shared by Mac OS X 10.4 or later appearing twice (once as a "Bonjour Shared" printer and once as a "Shared Printer") after completing these steps.

To revert back to the default behavior in Mac OS X 10.5, you can remove "BrowseProtocols dnssd cups" from the CUPS configuration file, or reset the printing system.

Re: Mac OSX leopard and Network Printer

Below are the tips discussed about Adding a network printer in Mac OS X:

Choose File > Print, and then choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu.

Select the printer in the dialog that appears and click Add.

The dialog lists Bonjour, AppleTalk, IP, shared, and Open Directory printers. You may need to wait a short while before your printer appears.

If you don’t see your printer, try one of the following:

To connect to an AppleTalk printer, click AppleTalk in the toolbar, select the zone the printer is in, select the printer, and click Add.

If AppleTalk wasn’t enabled already, clicking AppleTalk enables it.

To connect to an IP printer, click IP in the toolbar and enter the printer’s information.

To print to another type of printer, click More Printers, choose the type of printer from the pop-up menu, select the printer, and click Add.

When you select your printer, Mac OS X finds the printer’s driver and adds the printer to the Printer pop-up menu. If Mac OS X can’t find the printer driver, “Driver not Installed” or “Gutenprint” appears in the Print Using pop-up menu.

Your computer can usually detect whether a printer has special accessories installed, such as additional paper trays, extra memory, or a duplex unit. If it can’t, a dialog appears that lets you specify them. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer’s installed accessories so you can take full advantage of them.
