Cant Install Zone Alarm - Install Error 1636

I have a Dell Laptop and I cannot install Zone Alarm on it. As soon as I start the installation it is giving me an error message "An error occurred installing the package. Windows Installer returned "1636.". I have Windows Vista installed on my laptop and could it be that it is not compatible with vista? Thank you for any advice.

Yes, have you tried downloading other versions of Zone Alarm cause some versions have too many problems than other versions. However, there are many free firewall software available out there which you can try out, for example try out the Comodo Free Firewall.

Have you installed any prior commercial firewall or security suite on your pc? Is this a vista 32 bit or 64 bit version that you have installed? Have you downloaded the zone alarm removal tool to remove the failed install? Downloading using Internet Explorer with no download accelerator used?
