Linksys WRT54GC router's wireless performance settings

I have a Linksys WRT54GC router connected to my desktop computer via a patch cord. I was recently connecting it to my laptop with Windows Vista installed but the problem is that the signals are too weak to reach my laptop. Whenever I try to connect to internet it takes around 1-2 minutes to open a page. You can understand my problem I suppose. So I wanted to change its settings. Can you guide me throughout the router's wireless performance settings?

Actually, the router which you are having is not good for high range. You need to upgrade to a different one such as WRT54G or WRT160N router to get more and better speed and range. I am using WRT54G router at my home and it can reach almost every walls of my house.

You can even configure your Windows Vista for better wireless performance as follows:

    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Type Power Options in the Search field and click Power Options.
    3. Click Change Plan Settings under the Power Saver profile.
    4. Click on Change Advanced Power Settings.
    5. Click on the "+" sign next to Wireless Adapter Settings for advanced options.
    6. Click on the "+" sign next to Power Saving mode.
    7. Click on the Setting's drop down menu and select Maximum Performance.
    8. Click OK and close the Power Options window.

First of all, open Linksys home page and go to Wireless Tab > Wireless Security > Click the drop down arrow and then select WEP. Configure it and save the changes. Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. To avoid this uses some other channel for wireless connection. Linksys includes 11 different channels. You can use 11 GHz channel which serves the best solution.
