How to do port forwarding in D-Link DIR-628 router

I have a D-Link DIR-628 router. My problem is that I cannot for the life of me get this router to port forward. I have followed the user manual of D-Link and used ports 80 and then 8080 and 554. But I am still unable to get it working. My computer is already using static IP. How to do port forwarding in D-Link DIR-628 router?

The basic idea of port forwarding is as follows:

    1. Open your router's page
    2. Advanced Tab
    3. Virtual Server Button
    4. Type in your computer's Private IP
    5. Type in Port no. in Private port.
    6. Type again in Public, select Single Port, press Apply.
    7. Click Tools Tab
    8. Click Miscellaneous Button
    9. Press Save & ReBoot.

Port forwarding in D-Link DIR-628 router involves the following steps:
    1. Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1 by default)
    2. If prompt for username and password, enter "admin" as username and leave the password as blank.
    3. Now go to Advanced button near the top of the page.
    4. Click on Port Forwarding button near the left of the page.
    5. Select the Enable check box.
    6. Type in the name of the application into the Name box (it doesn't matter what you put here).
    7. Use the Computer Name box to choose a computer to forward ports to.
    8. Enter the ports to forward into the TCP/UDP section.
    9. Select Always from the Schedule drop down box.
    10. Select Allow All from the Inbound Filter drop down box.
    11. Click Save Settings to save your changes.

You said you followed all the steps as in the Dlink router manual but still unable to get it functional, can you tell us what problem are you facing? How did you come to know that it is not operational? Because usually router manufacturer's provide complete details about their devices. However problems may arise if you are forwarding a port if it is already used by some other applications. Have you tried using some other ports to make sure what is blocking and where?
